The first thing needed is fire. Quick fire is not hard to make, it only takes a couple of steps
First on a layer go to Filter-Render-Clouds, then you go again to Filter-Render-Difference Clouds.
You may do this different times until you get something you like.
Then from her you go to Filter-Render-Lighting effects. Make sure you have light type set to Omni. This lighting effect is to brighten the clouds and also on material choose a redish-brown or orange type color this will make the clouds look more like fire. Again you can mess with the setting unlike you reach the look you desire.
Repeat the step again but this time chose Spotlight for Light type. This will give it the effect that the fire is starting from one edge and ending in the other age. On the material choose a red color to give the fire more color.
Then clean up the fire by deleting the bright red areas an shape it to your desired shape. Once you have chose how you want it to look use the mixer brush.
You can use the mixer brush to blend in the light color with the darker colors around the edges. This way you can cover up some of the edges and mix in the color. Do this until you reached something you liked.
This is an easy way to make some quick fire. The reason you will need images of fire is because this is BF3 themed tutorials.
Now that the fire is made we can continue.
Right belong to EA/Dice. (http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3)
Will be modifying the 2 picture and adding some of the first picture.
First separate the 4 soldier in the second picture. Using a variation of the magic wand and the quick selection tool you can select the individual characters an hit ctr + j to copy them into a new layer.
The background was just a dull white so find or create a new background.
In most battlefield themes the black ground is usually tinted blue and the side character are black an white. So first tint the black ground blue in the image adjustment and tweak the hue and saturation slider until you find the right color.
Then you need to make the soldiers darker and take some details away. To make them darker you can mess with the image adjustment Levels or Curves. Choose which ever comfortable with. Second we need to take away some detail. using the cut out from the filter is and easy way.
Apply the same filter to all the soldiers, also resize the soldiers to mathc the new background.
To add alittle more to the back ground dd a new layer. Fill it with black. Go to Filter-Noise-Add noise. Then go to Filter-Blur-Radial Blur. Set it to Zoom, choose Best an set the amount to 100. Set to overlay and bring the opacity down to around 50.
Then bring in the soldier from the first picture. Position him in the center and add some fire that you created or download on top of him.
Use different layer an add different fire types. Set them to screen mode and bring the opacity down to your liking.
Delete any extra flames and make the flame fit the main soldiers body.
My rational for this is that i made this 2 tutorial based on an upcoming game Battlefield 3. This is a ne innovation in gaming an seem like a good place for me to start in. First to tutorial was to create quick fire. Second was to modified the original BF3 character and instead of making them the center of attention add a US soldier an put him as leader. As for the flames on his body its meant as a reflection of the war going around him while he is stil standing. Making the surrounding soldier darker and just having enough detail to tell who they are is because the game is based on unit. A leader and his squad.
